A cottage that housed a famous Galway hurling family in the late 19th century has been restored from a state of ruin and will be auctioned in the near future.

The ambulance providing back-up to the ambulance base in Ballinasloe is to be moved a further 40 minutes away from the town from February 1, according to local TD Denis Naughten.

A total of 45 sporting clubs in Galway city and county are to benefit from grants totalling €1,722,500 from the Department of Arts, Sports, and Tourism.
